Survey of Music Literature, is designed to increase the student's knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of music through the listening and examination of major compositions from the history of Western art music including music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th-Century. Characteristics of the main musical styles and elements such as dynamics, melody, rhythm, form, texture, and genre are discussed parallel with the study of the various compositions.
