Music classes for kids in NYC
At NY Smart Start, we believe that music education is an essential part of any child’s life.
Music not only benefits a child’s development and hemisphere formation, but also helps develop analytical thinking, coordination, and understanding of the world.
Our Music Program is offered to students who are interested in studying music in depth. Classes are taught in-person, online, as well as individually.
Our Instructors:
Our amazing instructors are internationally recognized professionals who have acquired their education in top musical conservatories. They all hold master’s degrees or higher levels of education. They have years of experience in their professional fields and share an absolute joy in teaching younger generations.
At NY Smart Start, students have the choice of completing their music education with one of our two programs: complete music education and/or specific classes.
Our program encompasses:
- Individual Practicum Time
- Solfege, Music Theory Classes
- Musical Literature
Individual Practicum Time
Our Music Program focuses on individual practicum time. Students follow programs approved by the Music Association.
Levels of Practice:
- Beginner
- Intermediate
- Advanced
- Professional
Each class is 30, 45, 60 minutes in length with thorough analysis of sound, rhythm, intonation, and other techniques.
Solfege, Music Theory Classes
Music Theory classes are offered in small groups or individual classes. The purpose of these classes is to offer students a deeper understanding of formation of notes, chords, harmonies, and more.
Music Theory Curriculum also includes ear training/Solfege, basics in musical grammar, and harmony. Students need to pass an exam before they are promoted to the next level.
Music Literature
Music Literature classes teach students about different musical periods, famous composers, and influential musical pieces. Students participate in hands-on projects, which aim to acquaint children with the wonderful world of music.
Participation in International and National Music Competitions
Students participate in piano recitals twice a year, annual piano exams, festivals, and competitions. We prepare young musicians for the following auditions and exams:
- Piano Guild (American College of Musicians),
- NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association Exams),
- ABRSM (Royal School of Music),
- Mark Twain Music Talent
- La Guardia School Auditions.
We prepare for ABRSM Theory Exams, AP Music Theory (latter for High Schoolers).
